Here in this image you can see the statues on the front door of Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica. The central church here was set up in 350's by the Pope Liberius, and financed by a Roman patrician and his wife. They were childless, and had decided to leave their fortune to the Blessed Virgin. She appeared to them in a dream and trained them to create an assembly in her regard.
