La pyrite est l’un des minéraux les plus communs et les plus appréciés parce qu’elle cristallise souvent en cristaux spectaculaires aux formes très géométriques et à la belle couleur dorée. Cette pyrite, parmi les plus célèbres, vient du Pérou et est constituée d’un octaèdre de forme complexe intact, lisse et très brillant juché sur une masse de cristaux polyédriques également brillants. Elle a été acquise par le MIM de haute lutte lors de la vente aux enchères chez Sotheby’s à New York de la collection Joseph Freilich en janvier 2001 (cette vente a fait grand bruit dans le monde de la minéralogie, les minéraux s’échangeant très rarement dans les ventes aux enchères publiques). Pyrite is one of the most common and most popular minerals because it often crystallizes in spectacular crystals with very geometric shapes and a beautiful golden color. This pyrite, one of the most famous, came from Peru and is composed of an intact, smooth, rather brilliant and complexly-shaped octahedron perched on a mass of equally brilliant polyhedric crystals. It was acquired by the MIM after a hard fight during an auction of the collection of Joseph Freilich at Sotheby’s in New York in January 2001. This sale received a lot of attention in the mineralogy world, minerals being rarely exchanged in public auctions. البوريطُسة واحدة من المعدنيات الأكثر شيوعاً وتقديراً، وكانت قد عرفت قديماً في اللغة العربية بمسمّى «المرقشيثا» (دخيل قديم الى العربية من اليونانية). وهي تستثير الذهول بأشكالها المتهندسة، وبلونها الذهبي الفتّان. جاءت القطعة المعروضة في الـ«ميم» من البيرو، وهي تعدّ من بين أشهر المرقشيثات. إنّها كناية عن جسم ثُمانيّ الأسطح ما يزال مالساً برّاقاً، يجثم فوق بلّورات صغرى متعدّدة الأسطح. ولقد استحوذ الـ«ميم» على هذه الفريدة بعد كفاح شاقّ أثناء بيع مجموعة جوزيف فرَيْليش بالمزاد العلني في سوثبيز بنيويورك، في كانون الثاني ٢٠٠١. أثارت هذه البيعة ضجة كبرى في أوساط هواة المعدنيات، إذْ نادراً جداً ما يتمّ تبادل المعدنيات في المزادات العل ...
